Patna : England were all out for 161 in 38.2 overs in their first innings just before tea on the second day of the third test against India at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, UK, on August 19, 2018, with  Hardik Pandya, in a devastating spell of fast bowling, taking 5/28, his first five-wicket haul in test cricket. Ishant Sharma took 2/32 while Jasprit Bumrah took 2/37. Mohd Shami took 1/56. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant took five catches in an innings in his debut test. England trail by 168 runs. India were all out for 329 earlier on the day.

Jos Buttler top scored for England making 39 runs in 32 ball hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes while openers Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings scored 29 and 20 runs respectively. Captain Joe Root made 16 while wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow scored 15 and allrounder Ben Stokes 10. Allrounder Chris Woakes, who had hit century in the second test, was out for 8 while Ollie Pope made 10.

Pandya took the wickets of Root, Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, and Stuart Broad while Ishant Sharma took the wickets of Cook and Ollie Pope. Bumrah took the wickts of Jennings and Buttler. Shami took the wicket of Ben Stokes.
