Ara : SDO, Ara, Arun Prakash, on January 9, 2019, submitted his inquiry report into the death of a child in the womb at Sadar Hospital, Ara, on January 5, 2019, for want of proper treatment to Bhojpur DM Sanjeev Kumar. The SDO, in his inquiry report, has found that two Anasthetists of the Sadar Hospital : Dr Uday Kumar and Dr Naresh Prasad, had neglected their duty.
A child had died in the womb of Pooja Devi, 24, wife of Dinanath Tiwari of village Babhnauli under Ara Muffasil police station on January 5, 2019, night, at Sadar Hospital, Ara, as no doctor was available in the hospital to operate the pregnant woman who was crying with delivery pain. Later on the direction of Bhojpur District Magistrate, Sanjeev Kumar, Dr Vikas was called on who operated upon the woman and took out the dead child from the womb and saved the life of the woman in the wee hour on January 6, 2019.
Dr Madhubala, Gynaecologist, and Dr Uday Kumar, Anaesthetist, were on duty but they were not present at the hospital. When the condition of the patient deteriorated, the DM called on Dr Madhubala and Dr Uday Kumar. It was said that Dr Uday Kumar was attending a birthday party. Dr Madhubala turned up but returned immediately as the Anaesthetist was not available. The DM called another Aneasthetist, Dr Naresh, around midnight. He came and said that he had performed his duty in the evening despite having cardiac problem and wondered he was called so late.
In the meantime, the child died in womb. An FIR was lodged with Ara Town police station against Dr Madhubala and Dr Uday Kumar. Superintendent, Sadar Hospital, Dr Satish Kumar Sinha, has served show cause notices on Dr Madhubala, Dr Uday Kumar, Dr Naresh Prasad, and two Auxiliary Nurse Midwives: Rekha Kumari and Ranjana Kumari.
The Bhojpur DM had constituted a team under the SDO to inquire into the incident. The SDO submitted his report to the DM holding Dr Uday Kumar and Dr Naresh Prasad responsible for the death of child in womb though he has reportedly given a clean chit to Dr Madhubala.
