Ara : Rohit Kumar, 14, son of late Nanhak Prasad, was killed and over a dozen injured when a speeding tractor fell into a ditch near village Sikarhatta under the same police station in Bhojpur district around midnight on October 20, 2018, when they were returning after immersing idols of goddess Durga.

Police brought over the body to Sadar Hospital, Ara, and admitted the injured there. Rohit’s family members and villagers staged demonstration at the Sadar Hospital and were allegedly involved in scuffle with a doctor to protest against delay in treatment. Later, the hospital administration called police and the protesters sere were pacified.

SHO, Sikarhatta police station, said that about two dozen youth all in their teens of village Sikarhatta under the same police station had gone for the immersion of idols goddess Durga in the late evening on October 20, 2018, but the tractor on which they were returning overturned into a ditch near the village in which over a dozen youth were injured. The locals admitted them to the Primary Health Centre but the doctors sent all of them to the Sadar Hospital after first aid. But Rohit Kumar succumbed to his injuries on way to the Sadar Hospital.

Dr Sanjay of the Sadar Hospital said that he was on night duty on October 20 and as the patients poured in, he at once called all the para-medical staffs and started their treatment without losing a single minute one by one but the villagers and family members were forcing him to treat their ward first.

Meanwhile, the villagers blocked Piro-Mufti main road near Sikarhatta Kala village under Sikarhatta police station on October 21, 2018, for about two hours paralysing the movement of vehicles. They burnt tyres and raised slogans against Bhojpur district administration in protest against the incident. They were demanding arrest of the driver of the tractor and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. The blockade was lifted after positive response from the police officials.
