Patna : England were 305/4 at stumps on the first day of the third Ashes test against Australia at WACA Ground, Perth, Australia, with Dawid Malan batting on 110 in 174 balls hitting 15 fours and a six and J Bairstow unbeaten on 75 in 149 deliveries hitting 10 fours. They were involved in an unbeaten partnership of 174 run.

It was maiden test century for Dawid Malan playing his 8th test match. It was also the first century by an England batsman in the on going Ashes series. Opener Mark Stoneman made 56 while J Vince made 25. Former Captain and Opener A Cook, playing his 150th test match, could score only seven run. His poor form continues.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc took the wickets of both Cook and Stoneman.  Stoneman’s wicket fell when England’s score was 131. England Captain Joe Root, who won the toss and elected to bat, scored just 20 run and was out to fast bowler Patc Commins while Josh Hazlewood took the wicket of Vince. Mitchell Starc took 2/79 in 19 overs while Pat Cummins took 1/60 and Josh Hazlewood took 1/62. Australia are leading the five-match Ashes series 2-0.
