Patna : Six time champion and World No 3 in ATP rankings Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, World No 7 Marin Cilic, 30, Croatia, World No 11 Karen Khachanov, 22, Russia, World No 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, and World No 21 Grigor Dimitrov, 27, Bulgaria, advanced to the second round of Australian Open 2019 at Melbourne Mark, Melbourne, Australia, on January 14, 2019.

But, World No 24 Roberto Bautista Agut, 30, Spain, beat four time finalist and winner of three Grand Slam titles Andy Murray, 31, Great Britain, in a five-set thriller. Agut beat Murray, who is coming back after a long injury off and is likely to retire thisnyear, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-2 in the first round. Murray fired 20 Aces in the match to 7 by Agut. Murray also committed 2 double faults. Agut won 5 break points in the match to 1 by Murray. Agut won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Murray.  Agut won 25 service games to 21 by Murray.

Federer beat World No 101 Denis Istomin, 32, Uzbekistan, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round. Federer fired 14 Aces in the match to 4 by Istomin. Cilic beat World No 88 Bernard Tomic, 26, Australia, 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 in the first round. Former US Open champion Cilic fired 24 Aces in the match to 12 by Tomic. Cilic won 4 break points to 1 by Tomic. Cilic won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Tomic.

World No 57 Tomas Berdych, 33, Czech Republic, upset World No 14 Kyle Edmund, 23, Great Britain, 6-3, 6-0, 7-5 in the first round. Berdych fired 13 Aces in the match to 5 by Edmund. Edmund committed 3 double faults to 1 by Berdych, who won 5 break points.

Khachanov beat World No 63 Peter Gojowczyk, 29, Germany, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round. Khachanov fired 15 Aces in the match to 6 by Gojowczyk. Khachanov won 5 break points to2 by Gojowczyk. Khachanov won 4 games in a row in the match to 3 by his rival.

Tsitsipas beat World No 54 Matteo Berrettini, 22, Italy, in four sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 to enter the second round. Tsitsipas fired 15 Aces in the match to 9 by Berrettini. Berrettini committed 8 double faults to 4 by Tsitsipas, who won 3 break points.
