Bagaha : Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari on February 11, 2019, while addressing a huge gathering at Bagaha in West Champaran stressed on improvement in communication for the development of the region. This will be possible only with better road, rail and waterways, he said.

Gadkari earlier inaugurated and laid foundation of projects worth Rs 366.62 crore including National Waterways 37 in river Gandak from its confluence with Ganga at Hajipur  to Tribenighat, Valmikinagar, at a cost of Rs 12.91 crore. He laid foundation of two road over bridge projects at Bagaha and Mangalpur worth Rs 62.48 crore and Rs 68.49 crore respectively and a 37 km long road project from Manuapul to Yogapatti and Nawalpur to Ratawal Chowk worth Rs 124.9 crore.

Gadkari said that this region is sugarcane producing but the condition of both the farmers as well as sugar mills are distressed and due to low prices of sugar the sugar factories are unable to clear the dues of the sugarcane growers. Keeping this mind, the NDA government at the centre has decided to enhance the sugar price from Rs 30 to Rs 34 per kg and resolved to develop ethonal based sugar factories to improve the condition of the sugar factories and the farmers. Mixing of 10% ethanol, a by- product of sugar, in petroleum products has been made mandatory, he said. Gadkari said that he has asked Bajaj and Hiro Honda and other autorikshaw manufacturing companies to make ethanol operated vehicles.

Gadkari  said that India produces foodgrains but farmers’ condition will be improve only after Agro related industries come up. He said that the NDA government is committed to develop the region as well as entire Bihar, where many resources are yet to be tapped for all round development. MP from Valmikinagar Satish Chandra Dubey, R S Pandey, Bhagirathi  Devi, both MLAs, former MP from Bagaha Kailash Baitha were present on the dais on the occasion.
