Patna : India were 86/2 in 29 overs at tea on day 3 in their second innings in the first test against Australia at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, Australia, on December 8, 2018, with Chetesdhwar Pujara batting 11 in 43 balls and captain Virat Kohli batting on 2 in 11 balls. India, who were all out for 250 in their first innings, lead by 101 runs.

Openers Lokesh Rahul and Murli Vijay scored 44 and 18 runs respectively. They added 63 runs for the first wicket. Rahul hit 3 fours and a six in 67 ball knock. He fell to Josh Hazlewood while Murli Vijay fell to Mitchell Starc.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 191/7, Australia were all out for 235 runs in their first innings in the first session of play on December 8 with Travis Head, playing his third test, scoring 72 in 167 balls with 6 fours. Spinner Nathan Lyon remained unbeaten on 24 in 28 balls with 2 fours and a six. Mitchell Starc fell to Jasprit Bumrah for 15. Mohammad Shami took the wickets of Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood.

For India, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took 3/47 while spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 3/57. Ishant Sharma took 2/47 while Mohammad Shami took 2/58.
