Patna : With captain Virat Kohli hitting 140 in 107 ball with 21 fours and 2 sixes and opener Rohit Sharma scoring an unbeaten 152 in 117 ball with 15 fours and 8 sixes, India beat West Indies by 8 wickets in the first ODI at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, Assam, on October 21, 2018. Kohli and Rohit added 246 runs for the second wicket. Kohli hit his 36th ODI century in the match while Rohit, the hit-man, scored his 20th ODI ton. Chasing a target of 323 runs, India scored 326/2 in only 42.1 over.

Rohit added 70 runs for the third wicket with Ambati Rayudu, who remained unbeaten on 22 with 1 four and a six. Incidentally, India lost their first wicket at 10 with opener Shikhar Dhawan falling to debutant fast bowler Oshane Thomas, who was bowling at express speed touching even 149 kmph. Thomas, however, failed to take another wicket with both Kohli and Rohit taking him to cleaner. Thomas took 1/83 in 9 overs. Spinner Devendra Bishoo took the wicket of Kohli. Bishoo took 1/72 in 10 overs.

India won the toss but opted to bowl. West Indies scored 322/8 in 50 overs with Shimron Hetmyer hitting a superb 106 in 78 ball with 6 fours and 6 sixes, opener Kieran Powell scoring 51 in 39 ball with 6 fours and 2 sixes, and captain Jason Holder 38 with 5 fours. Shai Hope made 32 and Rovman Powell 22. Devendra Bishoo and Kemar Roach remained unbeaten on 22 and 26 runs respectively. It was a nice total but with both Kohli and Rohit on song, India achieved the target with 47 balls to spare.

For India, Yuzvendra Chahal took 3/41 in 10 overs while Ravindra Jadeja took 2/66 in 10 overs. Umesh Yadav went wicketless conceding 64 runs in his 10 overs. Mohammad Shami took 2/81 in 10 overs while K Khaleel Ahmad took 1/64 in 10 overs.
