Patna : World N0 2 in ATP rankings Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, crushed World N0 31 Damir Dzumhur, 25, Bosnia, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round of Italian Open Masters 1000 at Foro Italico, Rome, on May 16, 2018. Nadal virtually toyed with Dzumhur in the match to enter the third round of the tournament.
But, World N0 8 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, who had stunned Nadal in the quarterfinals of Madrid Open recently, was shown the exit door by World N0 21 Fabio Fognini, 30, Italy, in the second round. Fognini beat Thiem, the isxth seed, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 to enter the third round.
World N0 9 John Isner, 33, USA, was upset in the second round by World N0 41 Albert Ramos- Vinolas, 30, Spain. Ramos -Vinolas stunned Isner in a three-set thriller 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 to enter the third round of the clay court tournament. World N0 53 Peter Gojowczyk, 28, Germany, defeated World N0 140 Lorenzo Sonego, 23, Italy, 6-3, 6-4 to enter the third round.
