Patna : New Zealand were all out for just 153 runs in 66.3 overs in their first innings in the first test against Pakistan on the first day at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, UAE, with captain Kane Williamson scoring 63 in 112 balls with 5 fours and Henry Nicholls 28 with 4 fours. Ross Taylor was out for 2 while opener Tom Latham made 13. New Zealand had won the toss and opted to bat.

For Pakistan, spinner Yasir Shah took 3/54 while fast bowler Mohammad Abbas took 2/13 in 12 overs. Pacer Hasan Ali took 2/38 while Haris Sohail took 2/11.

In reply, Pakistan were 59/2 at stump on day 1 with Haris Sohail batting on 22 and Azhar Ali batting on 10. Opener Imam-ul- Haq fell to Colin de Grandhomme for 6 while his opening partner Mohammad Hafeez fell t0 Trent Boult for 22. Pakistan trail by 94 runs.
