New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 12, 2018, condoled the passing away of V S Naipaul, 85. He was born in Trinidad.

“Sir VS Naipaul will be remembered for his extensive works, which covered diverse subjects ranging from history, culture, colonialism, politics and more. His passing away is a major loss to the world of literature. Condolences to his family and well wishers in this sad hour,” the Prime Minister said, according to a PIB release.

Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul died in London, England, on August 11, 2018. A Caribbean writer of Indian descent, Naipaul was a Nobel laureate. He won Nobel prize in literature in 2001. He had also won Booker prize in 1971.
