Patna : Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bundled out Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a paltry 70 in 17.1 overs at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in the first match of IPL 2019. The CSK won the toss but opted to bowl. The CSK were all over the RCB from the second over itself. The CSK spinners : Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, and Ravindra Jadeja,  ran through the RCB batting order as if they were bowling against club level players not Virat Kohli and A B de Villiers.

Opener and wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel was top scorer for the RCB with 29 in 35 balls with 2 fours. Apart from Patel, no other RCB batsman could get into double digit. Captain Virat Kohli fell to Harbhajan Singh for 6 when the score was 16. Harbhajan also accounted for Moeen Ali (9) and A B de Villiers (9). Moeen Ali hit the first six of IPL 12 in his score of 9. Shimron Hetmyer was run out for zero while Shivam Dubey fell to Tahir for 2. All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme fell to Jadeja for 4. It was a pathetic batting display by RCB who could not even bat for 20 overs.

Harbhajan took 3/20 in 4 overs while Imran Tahir took 3/9 in 4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja took 2/15 in 4 overs while Dwayne Bravo took 0/1.
