Bettiah : Two women, one of them pregnant, were hacked to death on February 17, 2019, allegedly by respective their in- laws for not bringing adequate dowry.

Sources said that a pregnant woman Amarawati Devi, 25, of village Chanakigard under Shikarpur police station in West Champaran district, was hacked to death by her in- laws for not meeting their dowry demand. Her father Rajendra Das of Koeria tola under Raxaul police station has lodged a dowry death case with Shikarpur  police station under Narakatiaganj sub division making her husband Baijoo Das, father-in-law Baldeo Das, and two others named accused, according to SHO, Shikarpur  police station S B Thakur.

In another case lodged with Matiyaria police station under the same sub-division by Ashiq Khan, father of Afasana  Khatoon, has alleged her in-laws had hacked to death his daughter. Ashiq Khan said that he had married his daughter Afasana Khatoon with Nashim Khan of village of Hauda Dumaria under Matiyaria police station. He has alleged that Asasana’s in- laws were demanding a four-wheeler as dowry. But as failed to meet their demand, they allegedly hacked his daughter to death. Ashiq Khan has made Asasana’s husband Nashim Khan, father-in-law Kalim Khan and others named accused in the case. SHO, Matiyaria police station, Ramroop Rai said that a case has been registered in this connection.

 Police sent both the bodies to MJK Hospital, Bettiah, for autopsy. SDPO, Narakatiaganj, said that police were awaiting  postmodern report in both the cases.
