Patna : World No 25 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, and World No 68 Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, marched into the quarter-finals of ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, an ATP World Tour 500 point event, at Rotterdam, Netherlands, on February 14, 2019, registering straight set victory over their respective opponents in Round of 16. Shapovalov and Wawrinka will face each other in the quarter-finals on February 15, 2019.

Shapovalov, the 10th seed, beat 2010 Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych, 33, Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-3 in second round in 1hr 17 minutes. Shapovalov fired 8 Aces in the match to 2 by Berdych. He also won 4 break points to 1 by Berdych. Shapovalov won 3 games in a row in the match while Berdych won 2. Shapovalov’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve ( 79% &  79%) was much better that of Berdych ( 61 % & 42 %).

Wawrinka, the winner of three Grand Slam titles, beat World No 14 and 4th seed Milos Raonic, 28, Canada, 6-4, 7-6 in the second round in 1hr 37 minutes. Raonic though fired 15 Aces in the match to 8 by Wawrinka. Raonic committed 3 double faults in the match compared to 1 by Wawrinka, who won a break point besides winning 3 games in a row. Wawrinka’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve ( 91% & 69%) was much better than that of Raonic ( 83 % & 40 %).
