Patna : World No 68 in ATP rankings Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, beat World No 7 and top seed Kei Nishikori, 29, Japan, to enter the final of ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, an ATP World Tour 500 points event played on hard court, at Rotterdan, Netherlands, in the early hours on February 17, 2019.

Wawrinka beat Nishikori 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in 2 hr 13 minutes in the semi-finals in a massive upset in the tournament. Wawrinka will face World No 33 Gael Monfils, 32, France, in the final at 8 pm on February 17, 2019. Monfils had defeated World No 16 Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, in the first semi-finals on February 16.

Wawrinka, the winner of 3 Grand Slam titles, fired 8 Aces in the match to none by Nishikori. He also won 5 break points compared to 3 by Nishikori. Both the players won 4 games each in a row in the match. Wawrinka’s winning percentage on his first serve ( 77%) was much better than that of Nishikori (54%). But, Nishikori’s winning percentage on his second serve (67%) was better than that of Wawrinka (47%).
