Patna : World No 77 in ATP rankings Jaume Munar, 21, Spain, defeated World No 15 Fabio Fognini, 31, Italy, the 2nd seed, in the Round of 16 in ATP Buenos Aires also known as Argentina Open at Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 14, 2019, in a major upset in the tournament. It is a ATP World Tour 250 points tournament.

Munar beat Fognini 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in 2 hr 20 minutes in Round of 16 to sail into the quarter-finals of the tournament. Munar won 7 break points to 6 by Fognini. Both the players won three games each in a row in the match. Fognini committed 5 double faults to 3 by Munar. Munar served 5 Aces to 4 by Fognini, who had reached QFs of French Open in 2011 and has so far won 8 singles titles. Munar had won French Open junior title in 2015.

World No 18 Marco Cecchinato, 26, Italy, also entered the QFs of the tournament defeating World No 93 Christian Garin, 22, Chile, 7-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16. Cecchinato won 4 break points to 3 by Garin, winner French Open Junior title in 2013. Cecchinato served 2 Aces in the match. He won 4 games in a row while Garin won 2.

World No 50 Guido Pella, 28, Argentina, also entered the QFs beating compatriot and World No 51 Leonardo Mayer, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 in the Round of 16. Mayer, 31, fired 10 Aces in the match to 5 by Pella. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Both of them also committed 3 double faults each. Pella won 2 break points while Mayer won 3.
