Ying, Okuhara, Intanon, Hyun enter SF of BSWF Hong Kong Open

Patna : World No 1 in BWF rankings Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, World No 6 Nozomi Okuhara, 23, Japan, World 8 Ratchanok Intanon, 23, Thailand, and World No 10 Sung Ji Hyun, South Korea, entered the semi-finals of BWF Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open on November 16, 2018.

Top seed Tai Tzu Ying beat reigning Olympic and World champion Carolina Marin, 25, Spain, in a three-game thriller 18-21, 21-9, 21-14 in 57 minutes in the quarter-finals. Tai Tzu won 60 rallies in the match to 44 by Carolina. She won 8 consecutive points to 5 by Carolina. Tai Tzu now leads Carolina 7-4 head to head.

Ratchanok Intanon, a former World champion, upset World No 2 Akane Yamaguchi, 21, Japan, 21-9, 21-16 in 41 minutes in the quarter-finals. Intanon won 42 rallies in the match to 25 by Yamaguchi. Intanon won 7 consecutive points in the match to 5 by her rival. Yamaguchi though leads Intanon 11-9 head to head.

Hyun entered the semi-finals beating World No 7 He Bingjiao, 21, China, 21-13, 19-11 (retired). Bingjiao retired due to injury  trailing 11-19 in the second game.

Okuhara beat World No 22 Pornpawee Chochuwong, 20, Thailand, in three-games 21-12, 16-21, 21-6 in 52 minutes in the quarter-finals.
